Vercel pricing in 2026 and what a five developer team really pays

Vercel Pro lists at 20 USD per month per developer seat with a 20 USD usage credit, and Hobby is 0 USD for personal projects. Traffic, edge requests, functions and image optimization are metered beyond what each plan includes. A team of five developers with 2 TB of transfer and 30M edge requests lands near 290 USD a month at the starting overage rates. Here is each line and how it compares with the same apps on your own servers.

Vercel plans and prices

Vercel sells three plans. The Pro plan fee is partly a usage credit, and seats are priced separately from usage. These figures come from vercel.com/pricing.

PlanMonthly priceSeatsIncluded
Hobby0 USD1 developer seatFor personal projects. 1M edge requests, 100 GB fast data transfer
Pro20 USDDeveloper seats at 20 USD each per month, unlimited viewer seats20 USD usage credit, 10M edge requests, 1 TB fast data transfer

Vercel usage rates

Everything above the included amounts is metered. Vercel publishes these as starting rates, so treat them as the floor.

  • Fast data transfer. From 0.15 USD per GB beyond 1 TB on Pro.
  • Edge requests. From 2 USD per million beyond 10M on Pro.
  • Fast origin transfer. From 0.06 USD per GB.
  • Function invocations. From 0.60 USD per million.
  • Active CPU time. From 0.128 USD per hour, with provisioned memory from 0.0106 USD per GB-hour.
  • Image optimization. Transformations from 0.05 USD per 1,000, cache reads from 0.40 USD per million and cache writes from 4 USD per million.

No single line is large. The surprise comes from how many lines there are and that each one grows with a different thing: traffic, page count, cache churn or compute time.

What a five developer team pays on Vercel

Take a product team of five developers on Pro with a marketing site and an app frontend. Assume 2 TB of fast data transfer and 30M edge requests in a month, at the starting overage rates. Prices in USD per month.

ItemUsageCalculationMonthly cost
Developer seats5 seats5 x 20100
Fast data transfer2 TB, 1 TB included1,000 GB x 0.15150
Edge requests30M, 10M included20 x 240
Subtotal100 + 150 + 40290

That excludes function time, image optimization and any database or storage you buy through the marketplace, all of which add to it. The 20 USD included credit trims the total slightly. This is an illustration at starting rates, so your invoice will differ, but the shape holds: seats scale with headcount and the rest scales with traffic.

Why Vercel bills grow

Three things move the number without a code change. A launch or a link on a popular site raises transfer and requests in a day. Image-heavy pages multiply transformations and cache writes. Every new developer adds a seat. None of it is unfair, since you pay for what you use, but the monthly total becomes a forecast. Teams that need a fixed number for a budget tend to look at flat pricing. If you watch vendor pricing pages for exactly this kind of change, a tool that can track competitor price and page changes saves you checking by hand.

Vercel vs your own servers

The same frontends, an API, a worker and Postgres fit on one 8 GB, 4 vCPU cloud server. Servers of that size typically cost around 25 to 50 USD a month depending on the provider, and traffic is usually included up to a generous allowance.

One own server with Deployment Starter4925 to 5074 to 99
Same, Starter billed yearly2425 to 5049 to 74

In exchange you take on capacity planning, backups, OS patching and a single region unless you add a CDN. Starter has one member, so a five person team that needs shared access and an audit log looks at Team. See the Vercel alternative comparison for migration steps and where Vercel still wins.

When Vercel is the right buy

Vercel wins for a frontend-first team with moderate traffic that wants edge delivery, instant previews and no server work. If your bill stays near the Pro seat cost, switching saves little. The same goes for a one-person team on a side project that fits Hobby limits.

When Deployment fits the team

Move when usage lines outgrow the seat cost, when you also run an API, workers and a database that need homes, when customers want workloads in your own cloud account, or when you need roles and an audit log without an enterprise contract. Deployment manages servers on AWS, DigitalOcean, Hetzner, Linode and Vultr, or bare metal over SSH.
